New Musical Groups

Austin Music Connection is starting a couple of new groups as suggested by some of our members. The core members of each group are adding members to these groups by invitation and audition only. (If you received an invitation, that means you have effectively auditioned already at one of our open sessions.)

Please send an email to ted.herr@yahoo.com if you are interested in joining one of these initiatives or want more information.

The Blues & Rock Band

We are starting to form a rock band with Matt, Nick and Ted as the core members. The band will meet about twice per month, most likely on a weekday evening and focus initially on become good at playing a core set of songs. Within the core songs, there will be a strong emphasis on blues. The core set is likely to comprise several songs out of this group and songs suggested by new members:

  • Born on the Bayou
  • Bootleg
  • Graveyard Train
  • Feelin’ Blue
  • Side of the Road
  • Green River
  • Sweet Hitch-hiker
  • Who’ll Stop the Rain
  • Have You Ever Seen the Rain
  • Tell Me What’s On Your Mind
  • Follow You Down
  • She Belongs to Me
  • Three Pistols
  • Sister Golden Hair

Instrumentation for this group will be primarily electric. We will be looking for a drummer, a bass guitarist and singers; both male and female for this band. At this time, we are simply looking to improve as musicians and are not preparing with public performances in mind.

The Folk/Rock/Country Acoustic Group

We are also forming a folk/rock/country group that will focus on an evolving group of songs, with an empahsis on developing harmonious music both through varied instruments, varied orchestrations, and singing with harmonies.

A core set of songs has not been established. This group will be based on acoustic instruments. Possible orchestration will include guitars, and will ideally include other instruments typically found in folk and country music, such as a banjo, a ukulele, a mandolin, a steel lap guitar, bass guitar, flute and so on.
